Skiers
Give Whistler three nights and compress Vancouver. Ski days are difficult to substitute, while city sightseeing is easier to shorten around arrival/departure.

Five days gives you enough room for two Vancouver days, a real Sea-to-Sky travel day and two Whistler experiences without racing every morning.

Stay central and explore the waterfront, West End and an easy neighbourhood dinner.
Granville Island/False Creek, North Shore or culture depending on weather and interests.
Britannia Mine or Sea to Sky Gondola, a waterfall stop, lunch in Squamish and a late-afternoon Whistler arrival.
Choose one major mountain or adventure experience and leave room for the Village, lakes or culture.
Use the morning for a missed priority, then return to Vancouver with road-condition buffer.
A good itinerary leaves at least one choice unmade until the forecast is visible. Mountain weather, wildfire smoke, highway incidents and attraction operating schedules can all change the value of a fixed plan.
Book the items that sell out or define the trip. Keep easy walks, neighbourhood time, waterfalls and flexible meals as movable pieces.
Five days is the first itinerary length where Vancouver and Whistler can both feel like destinations rather than a city plus a rushed side trip. Two city days provide enough contrast to see more than the downtown core. A dedicated Highway 99 day prevents the transfer from stealing time from either end. Two Whistler blocks give you one high-priority activity and one weather-flexible period.
The trade-off is Squamish. With five days, it usually works best as a major stop on the transfer rather than as a separate overnight unless outdoor adventure there is a central goal.
| Day | Morning | Afternoon | Evening |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 · Vancouver | Waterfront orientation | Stanley Park / West End | West End or downtown dinner |
| 2 · Vancouver | Granville Island / False Creek | Yaletown, culture or North Shore | Destination dinner |
| 3 · Sea-to-Sky | Britannia Mine or gondola | Shannon Falls / Squamish / Brandywine | Whistler Village arrival |
| 4 · Whistler | Major seasonal activity | Continue or use lakes/culture | Après / dinner |
| 5 · Whistler + return | Flexible missed priority | Lunch and southbound drive | Vancouver or airport hotel if needed |
If the forecast is poor on day four, use culture, spa, Valley Trail, pool or village time and move the view-dependent mountain activity to day five morning if your return schedule allows. Avoid committing day five to an activity that could jeopardize a flight.
Give Whistler three nights and compress Vancouver. Ski days are difficult to substitute, while city sightseeing is easier to shorten around arrival/departure.
Keep three nights in Vancouver and use Whistler as a scenic two-night finish. This supports neighbourhood dining, museums and a slower urban pace.
Keep the same basic split but remove one attraction from the Sea-to-Sky day and use one half-day as genuine downtime.
Consider one Squamish overnight only if a specific climbing, paddling, biking or hiking activity is important enough to justify the extra hotel move.
For a five-day trip, accommodation, any must-do Whistler activity, timed attractions and transportation are the true constraints. Restaurant bookings, easy park visits and neighbourhood walks can sit around them.
Keep the Highway 99 lunch and at least one Whistler half-day flexible. That is the space you use if weather, traffic or fatigue reshuffles the plan.
Hours, access, road conditions and operating details can change. Confirm the details that matter to your day before leaving.
